Octopus Energy has signed an agreement with Mingyang Smart Energy to cooperate on projects in the UK. The partnership aims to reduce the cost of wind power in the country. As part of the agreement, Octopus will look at applying software for data protection and cyber security alongside Mingyang’s offshore and onshore turbine technology.
Octopus Energy Generation, the renewables arm of Octopus Energy, plans to use Mingyang turbines in the development of up to 6 GW of new capacity identified through its ‘Winder’ platform. The tool connects communities interested in wind projects with landowners to identify potential onshore sites. While the initial focus is on onshore wind, the partnership will also consider other technologies, including solar power and battery storage.
